In January 2025, ZoomInfo ran a one-month pilot of a well-funded AI SDR. It told TechCrunch the agent "performed significantly worse than our SDR employees" (TechCrunch). Today you can buy into the same category for $49 a month. So the question is not "does it work?" It is: which part of the job does it do, what does it really cost, and what breaks when it gets it wrong?
What is an AI SDR agent?
An AI SDR agent is software that does the work of a sales development rep (SDR), the junior seller who books first meetings for the closers. The job has seven steps: find, research, write, send, follow up, handle replies, book. Full agents try all seven. Copilots research and draft, and a person clicks send.
Autopilot means the agent sends without asking. Copilot means it drafts and you approve. Start in copilot. Switch when the drafts stop needing edits. For agents that run ads and content too, see Best AI Agents for Marketing in 2026.
What are the best AI SDR agents in 2026?
The ten worth a shortlist are 11x, Artisan, AiSDR, Reply.io, Amplemarket, Apollo, Outreach, Qualified, Regie.ai and Clay. They run from "does the whole job" to "does one part very well". That order is not a quality rank. We did not run live campaigns on them. Features and prices come from each vendor's own pages, as of October 2026.

1. 11x (Alice and Julian)
- Does: Alice finds prospects from 50+ data sources, writes one-to-one messages, runs sequences, handles replies and books meetings. Julian answers inbound leads by phone.
- Channels: email, phone, LinkedIn, SMS, WhatsApp, chat.
- Price: on request. The site shows no price.
- Best for: funded B2B teams that want volume.
- Honest limit: trust. In March 2025, TechCrunch reported that 11x showed ZoomInfo and Airtable as customers when both said they were not. 11x said it removed wrong mentions.
2. Artisan (Ava)
- Does: finds leads in 250M+ verified B2B contacts, sends from your domains in your reps' names, answers replies and books meetings. Approval before send, tone locks and banned phrases are options.
- Channels: email and social. Ava emails; your reps dial through a dialer add-on.
- Price: on request. Team covers about 2,500 leads contacted a month, Scale about 6,000.
- Best for: one contract for data, sequencer and dialer.
- Honest limit: no public price to compare before a sales call.
3. AiSDR
- Does: researches three data points per lead, writes, follows up, and answers replies in 5–10 minutes or waits for approval. It also sets up mailboxes and warmup.
- Channels: email, LinkedIn, AI call steps through Aircall.
- Price: Solo $250/month (200 contacts, monthly). Explore $900 (800 contacts, quarterly). Scale $2,500 (2,500 contacts, quarterly). Annual saves 20%.
- Best for: small teams that want a public price.
- Honest limit: 200 contacts at the 3.43% average reply rate is about 7 replies a month. Its LinkedIn automation breaks LinkedIn's rules (see risks).
4. Reply.io (Jason AI)
- Does: finds and researches leads, writes, sends AI replies and books meetings, around the clock.
- Channels: email and LinkedIn, in 50+ languages.
- Price: from $500/month. Seats are extra: Multichannel from $89 per user per month, billed annually.
- Best for: selling into many countries.
- Honest limit: agent and seats are priced apart, so add them up. Same LinkedIn risk.
5. Amplemarket (Duo)
- Does: scans for buying signals about every 24 hours, researches each one and drafts a multichannel sequence. A rep reviews it and sends in one click.
- Channels: email, social, calls, WhatsApp.
- Price: Startup $600/month on an annual term (2 users). Growth and Elite, which add Duo Voice, are custom.
- Best for: reps who want AI research but keep control.

- Channels: email and phone.
- Price: Free. Basic $49, Professional $79, Organization $119 per seat per month, billed annually (Organization needs 3 seats).
- Best for: budget-first teams that run sequences themselves.
- Honest limit: a toolbox, not a rep. AI writing has word caps, and unused credits expire each cycle.
7. Outreach (and Salesloft)

8. Qualified (Piper)
- Does: an inbound AI SDR. Piper talks to site visitors, emails inbound leads and books meetings.
- Channels: website chat, email, voice, video.
- Price: on request. Plans are sized from 250,000 to 5 million web sessions a month.

- Best for: GTM engineers who build their own engine.
- Honest limit: a builder, not an SDR. You design every play.
A custom option: ElementalsAI Labs (our own service, not ranked)
Disclosure: this is us. We build a 24/7 agent system for one business at a time, on its own offer and plays. The outbound part covers email, AI voice calls, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and Reddit. We have no first-party outbound results yet, so we claim none. Our only public proof is one ads audit (see the numbers). No public price. The rules below apply to us too. See how we build it.
What does an AI SDR cost vs a human SDR?
An AI SDR costs $49 to $2,500 a month on published plans. A human SDR costs about $6,667 a month in on-target pay alone. That is the Bridge Group's 2025 median of $80,000 a year ($55,000 base, $25,000 variable), from 351 B2B companies, 78% in North America. In India, AmbitionBox shows a typical SDR salary of ₹820,000 to ₹900,000 a year (2.6k salaries, updated 14 October 2026), about ₹68,000 to ₹75,000 a month.
| Option | Monthly cost | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Human SDR (mostly North America) | ~$6,667 pay | Median quota: 10 held meetings a month; 3.0-month ramp; 1.9-year tenure |
| Human SDR (India) | ~₹68,000–75,000 | Judgment, live calls, relationships |
| Regie.ai Pro | $49 | 5,000 credits, power dialer; you sell |
| Apollo Professional | $79/seat (annual) | Data, sequences, AI research and writing |
| AiSDR Solo | $250 | Full agent, 200 contacts a month |
| Reply.io Jason AI | From $500 | Full agent, email and LinkedIn |
| Amplemarket Startup | $600 (annual) | 2 users, Duo copilot |
| AiSDR Scale | $2,500 | Full agent, 2,500 contacts a month |
Now the math most buyers skip. A human SDR at the median quota delivers 10 held meetings a month: about $667 of pay per meeting (our math). AiSDR Solo reaches 200 contacts. At the 3.43% average reply rate, that is about 7 replies. At the top-quartile 5.5%, about 11. Replies, not meetings. Cheap per month is not cheap per meeting.
Then add the extras: LinkedIn at $69 per account a month on Reply.io's Email Volume plan, Apollo's Advanced Dialer at $119 per team a month, and credits that expire each cycle. Even AI ramps: AiSDR asks for a quarterly contract on bigger plans because mailbox warmup takes time. Price the whole stack per meeting held. We ran the same math for ads in Google Ads Management Cost in 2026.

What can an AI SDR replace, and what can't it?
An AI SDR replaces the repeatable work: research, drafts, follow-ups and fast replies. It does not replace the person who decides who to sell to, what to offer and how to run a live call. Adoption is no longer the question: Salesforce (a vendor) says nine in 10 sales teams use agents or expect to within two years.
What it replaces
- Research and list building. Apollo sells access to 240M contacts. 11x pulls from 50+ data sources. No human reads that much.
- Follow-ups. 42% of cold email replies come after the first email (Instantly, vendor, 2026). People skip step four. Agents do not.
- Speed to lead. Firms that tried to contact a lead within an hour were nearly 7× as likely to qualify it as firms that waited one more hour, and over 60× as likely as firms that waited a day (HBR, 2011). In the same research, 23% of 2,241 US companies never answered a test lead. The average reply took 42 hours. An inbound agent answers in minutes, at 3 a.m. too.
What it can't replace
- The market and the offer. An agent sends faster. It does not make a weak offer strong. As Gartner's Dan Gottlieb put it: "If those systems are fragmented, the agents will scale the fragmentation."
- Trust. On LinkedIn, 28.5% of connection requests get accepted. After that, messages get 10.4% replies, against 3.0% for notes sent with the request (Expandi, vendor, 13.2M requests, May 2025 – April 2026). Connect first, pitch second.
- Live calls. Even Artisan splits the job: Ava emails, your reps dial. Amplemarket keeps reps in control of every send.
- Ownership of the number. Gartner predicts agents will outnumber sellers 10 to 1 by 2028, yet fewer than 40% of sellers will say agents improved their productivity (July 2026, 210 sales leaders surveyed).
So, will AI replace SDRs? It replaces SDR tasks. Most teams buy a tool and expect it to own the pipeline. Teams that win keep one person who owns the number and give that person agents. Ads show the same split: see Will AI Replace Performance Marketing?
Is it legal to automate LinkedIn and AI cold calls?
Only with care. Each channel has its own rule. Check these three before you switch an agent on.
- LinkedIn. LinkedIn does not permit third-party software that automates activity on its site. Members who use it risk having accounts restricted or shut down. Any agent that sends requests or messages for you carries this risk. If automation is off the table, let content build trust: see Best AI Agents for Content Marketing in 2026.
- AI voice calls in the US. In February 2024, the FCC ruled that AI-generated voices count as artificial voices under the TCPA (the US Telephone Consumer Protection Act). So these calls need the called person's prior express consent, unless an exemption applies. Ask your vendor how it records consent. 11x, for one, describes its outbound calling as consented.
- Promotional calls in India. In August 2024, TRAI (the telecom regulator) told operators to blacklist unregistered telemarketers and cut their telecom resources for two years, after 1.2 million complaints in 2023. Since the February 2025 amendment, promotional calls must use the 140 number series. A first violation bars outgoing calls for 15 days. Repeat offenders are disconnected for a year and blacklisted.

How do you choose an AI SDR? A 10-point buying checklist
Choose on cost per meeting held, control and risk, not on the demo. Copy this list into your next vendor call.
- Write your ICP and offer in one paragraph before the first demo. ICP (ideal customer profile) means who buys, and why now.
- Get the full monthly price in writing: platform, seats, credits, mailboxes, domains, LinkedIn seats, dialer.
- Do the reply math. Contacts per month × 3.43% = expected replies. If that misses your meeting goal, the plan is too small.
- Run copilot mode for 30 days. Approve every message until your edits drop to near zero.
- Ask who owns the sending domains and mailboxes. Keep your main company domain out of cold sends.
- Ask exactly how it sends on LinkedIn. If it automates your account, accept the restriction risk knowingly, or switch it off.
- Check call rules by country. US: prior express consent for AI voices. India: a registered telemarketer on the 140 series.
- Test speed to lead. Fill in your own website form at 9 p.m. and time the answer. Under an hour is the bar HBR measured.
- Check two-way CRM sync. Every send, reply and meeting must land where your team works.
- Judge it on meetings held, not emails sent. Pilot for one quarter at most, with an exit clause, and keep your data if you leave. Ask for a weekly report in money (the kind owners should get).
How we know this
Features and prices: each vendor's own pricing or product page, read on 14 October 2026. Where a page shows no price, we say "on request" and skip third-party guesses. Benchmarks: Instantly (vendor, March 2026), Expandi (vendor, May 2025 – April 2026), HBR (2011), Bridge Group (351 companies, February 2025), AmbitionBox India (updated 14 October 2026), Gartner (survey run January–February 2026). Rules: LinkedIn's help centre, the FCC ruling via Cooley, TRAI via MediaNama and FoneArena. "Our math" marks simple divisions of these numbers. We did not test these tools on live campaigns, and we have no first-party outbound numbers.
Questions people ask
Will AI replace SDRs?
Not in 2026. AI SDR agents replace tasks: research, drafts, follow-ups and fast replies. They do not replace the person who picks the market, owns the offer and runs live calls. Gartner predicts agents will outnumber sellers 10 to 1 by 2028, yet fewer than 40% of sellers will say agents improved their productivity.
How much does an AI SDR cost?
As of October 2026, published plans run from $49 a month (Regie.ai Pro) to $2,500 a month (AiSDR Scale). 11x, Artisan, Outreach, Salesloft and Qualified quote on request. Add mailboxes, LinkedIn seats, dialers and data credits to get the real bill.
Is an AI SDR cheaper than a human SDR?
Per month, yes. The Bridge Group puts median SDR on-target pay at $80,000 a year, mostly from North American companies. In India, AmbitionBox shows a typical ₹820,000 to ₹900,000 a year. Compare cost per meeting held, not cost per month.
Is it legal to use AI voice agents for cold calls?
In the US, the FCC ruled in February 2024 that AI voices count as artificial voices under the TCPA, so these calls need prior express consent unless an exemption applies. In India, promotional calls must come from registered telemarketers on the 140 number series.
Can an AI SDR automate LinkedIn safely?
No tool can promise that. LinkedIn does not permit third-party software that automates activity on its site, and accounts that use it can be restricted or shut down. Keep automation off the founder's main profile.
What reply rate should an AI SDR get?
Instantly's 2026 benchmarks put the average cold email reply rate at 3.43%, the top quartile at 5.5% and elite campaigns above 10%. 42% of replies come from follow-ups, so run at least four steps.
