One store paid ₹71,800 a month for Google Ads. Every month, ₹34,400 of it sold nothing. That is 48%.
At the usual 10–20% fee, someone would charge ₹7,180–₹14,360 a month to manage that account. The waste was 2.4 to 4.8 times bigger than the fee.
Below is every price: agencies, freelancers, in-house hires, AI tools and AI agents. Read each with one question in mind. Who catches the waste?
How much does Google Ads management cost in 2026?
Google Ads management costs 10–20% of ad spend at most agencies, a median $15–$45 an hour from an Upwork freelancer, about $78,080 a year for a US in-house manager, and from $89 a month for AI software. Here is every option side by side.
| Option | Typical cost | What you get | Hidden costs | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Agency, % of spend | 10–20% of spend. WebFX: 15% (min $975) at $5,000–$30,000; 12% above | A team, strategy, reports | Setup fee; the fee rises with budget, not sales | $10,000+ a month, several channels |
| Agency, flat fee | $750–$1,500 a month under $5,000 of spend; $1,500–$3,000 at $5,000–$15,000 (NEWMEDIA) | The same work, fixed price | Scope limits; extras billed | Steady budgets |
| Agency, performance-based | Examples: 8% of attributed revenue, or $40 per qualified lead (Clicks Geek) | Pay tied to results | Rare; risk priced in; disputes over “attributed” | Stores with clean sales tracking |
| Freelancer | $15–$40 an hour median (Upwork); retainers $500–$3,000 a month | One hands-on person | 5–10% Upwork fee; no second check | Small accounts, one-off audits |
| In-house PPC manager | US: $78,080 a year (Indeed). India: ₹37,319 a month | Full-time focus | Benefits (31.5% of US employer cost); tools; hiring | Large budgets, many channels |
| AI tool (you run it) | Opteo $129–$499; Adalysis from $149; Optmyzr from $299 a month | Alerts, audits, one-click fixes | Your time to decide and approve | In-house teams, freelancers |
| Off-the-shelf AI agent | Ryze $89 a month; Google’s Ads Advisor, no separate price listed | Suggests changes, applies them after you approve | Trusts whatever the account counts as a conversion | Small teams |
| Agent system built for your business: ElementalsAI Labs (our own service) | No public price. Built for your business, then you pay only for changes you ask for | Agents check waste daily at campaign, asset and product level, against real orders | Build time; read access to ads and store data | Owners who want agents on their own numbers |
What is the average Google Ads agency fee?
The average Google Ads agency fee is 10–20% of monthly ad spend, usually with a minimum and a setup fee. I found no independent 2025–2026 survey of agency fees, so the numbers below come from published pricing pages and agency guides.
Percentage of ad spend
This is the most common model. WebFX publishes its tiers (as of October 2026): $750 a month for $100–$5,000 of spend; $975 or 15%, whichever is higher, for $5,000–$30,000; $4,500 or 12% above $30,000.
The catch: the fee grows when the budget grows, not when sales grow. In our audit, ad spend rose 96% in a year. Online revenue rose 31%. On a percentage fee, the manager’s pay would have risen 96% too.
Flat monthly fee
A flat fee stays the same when spend moves. NEWMEDIA’s August 2026 guide lists typical flat fees by budget. The table sets them next to WebFX’s tiers (our arithmetic on their published rates).
| Monthly ad spend | WebFX % tiers, worked out | Typical flat fee (NEWMEDIA) |
|---|---|---|
| Under $5,000 | $750 | $750–$1,500 |
| $5,000–$15,000 | $975–$2,250 | $1,500–$3,000 |
| $15,000–$30,000 | $2,250–$4,500 | $3,000–$7,500 |
| $30,000–$50,000 | $4,500–$6,000 | $3,000–$7,500 |
| $50,000–$100,000 | $6,000–$12,000 | $7,500–$12,000 |
Setup fee
Expect a one-time charge. WebFX bills a first-month “initial optimization” of $1,200, $2,250 or $5,800, by tier. NEWMEDIA lists campaign setup at $1,000–$5,000+ and conversion tracking setup at $500–$3,000.
Ask what it buys. If it skips a check of what Google counts as a sale, buy that check first. Counting page views as purchases is one of the 12 common Google Ads mistakes we found.
Performance-based
It is rare, and the risk is priced in. Clicks Geek’s April 2026 guide gives examples, not averages: 8% of attributed revenue for an online store, or $40 per qualified lead for home services.
The fight is over one word: “attributed”. In our audit, Google counted 816,270 “conversions” from 7 August to 9 October 2026. The store had 303 orders. A revenue share on Google’s count pays for sales that never happened.
How much do Google Ads freelancers charge?
Google Ads freelancers on Upwork charge a median $15–$40 an hour worldwide, says Upwork’s own rate page. Its PPC specialist page says $20–$45: $20–$25 entry level, $25–$35 intermediate, $35–$45 expert. These are rates from past contracts; top people charge more.
Freelance retainers run about $500–$3,000 a month (ALM Corp, April 2026). Then add the platform fee: Upwork charges clients 5% on Basic and 10% on Business Plus, plus a contract initiation fee.
Example (not a quote): 20 hours a month at $40 is $800. With the 5% fee, you pay $840.
The risk is one person with no second check. Ask any freelancer what sold nothing last quarter, in money. Test the answer with the 40-check Google Ads audit checklist.
How much does an in-house PPC manager cost?
A US PPC manager averages $78,080 a year in base pay, with a range of $47,893 to $127,293. That comes from 53 salaries in Indeed job postings, updated 2 October 2026.
Salary is not the full cost. For full-time US private-industry workers, benefits were 31.5% of total employer cost in June 2026, says the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. At that ratio, a $78,080 salary costs the employer about $114,000 a year, or about $9,500 a month.
In India, Indeed shows ₹37,319 a month for a PPC manager. That comes from only 17 salaries (updated 30 January 2026), so use it as a rough guide.
Then add tools and hiring time.
How much do AI tools for Google Ads cost?
AI tools for Google Ads cost about $129–$389 a month at small and mid budgets, as of October 2026. Most price by monthly ad spend.
- Opteo: Basic $129 a month (10 accounts, up to $25,000 of spend), Professional $249 (up to $100,000), Agency $499 (up to $250,000). Pricing.
- Adalysis: $149 a month up to $50,000 of spend, or $126 a month billed yearly. 30-day free trial. Pricing.
- Optmyzr: Essentials $299 a month at up to $25,000 of spend ($209 billed yearly); Premium $389. Custom above $500,000. 14-day free trial. Pricing.
Optmyzr’s homepage promises “No changes without your approval, ever.” That is the point, and the limit. A tool finds issues; a person still has to decide and click. We compare the main ones in Best AI Tools for Google Ads in 2026.
What do AI agents for Google Ads cost?
Google’s own agent sits inside Google Ads with no separate price listed. Independent agents start at about $89 a month.
- Google Ads Advisor: a Gemini-based agent that suggests fixes, keywords and assets, and applies changes only after you approve. It reached all English-language accounts in December 2025 (Google). Its successor, Ask Advisor, was announced in May 2026 and is in beta (PPC Land; Google Ads Help).
- Ryze: $89 a month, with approval on every change. If it runs your campaigns, add 5% of managed spend, falling to 0.8% (pricing).
Here is the limit. An agent optimises toward whatever the account calls a conversion. In our audit, page views were 64–89% of the value Google bid for, in every month since July 2025. An agent that trusts those numbers chases page views. It just does it faster.
A different model, and it is our own service, so weigh it that way. ElementalsAI Labs builds a 24/7 agent system for one business (how we build it). The agents check ads against real store orders and run on 55+ automations. It is built for your business first; after that, you pay only for changes you ask for. No public price yet. See what agents do and don’t do in 2026.
Why is the management fee not the real cost of Google Ads?
Because waste usually costs more than the fee. In one real audit of an Indian D2C (direct-to-consumer) store, 48% of a ₹71,800 monthly budget sold nothing: ₹34,400 a month. That number is proven from the account and store data (see the audit numbers).
The waste sat at three levels (campaign, asset and product):
- Product: 792 of 1,027 advertised products sold nothing through ads in three months. They took ₹16,900 a month.
- Campaign and asset: YouTube video ads that showed no product took ₹17,500 a month.
- Measurement: Google counted 816,270 “conversions” while the store had 303 orders.
- Result: ad spend rose 96% in a year. Online revenue rose 31%.
Now compare the fee. At 10–20%, managing ₹71,800 costs ₹7,180–₹14,360 a month. The waste was ₹34,400. Picking the cheapest manager saves a few thousand rupees. Picking one who catches waste saves far more.
The fix was not more budget. The same store needs ₹59,900 a month, not ₹71,800, and we estimate ₹34,000 more online revenue a month.
This is not one odd account. A vendor study by GrowthSpree found 36.1% average waste across 43 enterprise B2B SaaS accounts (August 2024 – July 2025; range 28.1–45.1%). A vendor study by Doctor Ads found zero-conversion search terms took about 6% to nearly 40% of spend across accounts in one industry (September 2024 – February 2025). What is the total cost of Google Ads management at different budgets?
The true cost is the fee plus the money that sold nothing. The table uses example numbers, not claims. Waste is set at 30%: inside the 28.1–45.1% GrowthSpree range, below our audit’s 48%. The calculator below adds tools and setup.
| Example budget a month | Example manager and fee | Fee a month | Wasted spend at 30% | True cost a month | Kept if waste falls to 10% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $3,000 | Freelancer: 20 hours × $40, plus 5% Upwork fee | $840 | $900 | $1,740 | $600 |
| $15,000 | Agency at 15% (WebFX mid tier) | $2,250 | $4,500 | $6,750 | $3,000 |
| $60,000 | Agency at 12% (WebFX top tier) | $7,200 | $18,000 | $25,200 | $12,000 |
At every budget, wasted spend beats the fee. At $15,000, cutting waste from 30% to 10% keeps $3,000 a month, more than the whole $2,250 fee. At $60,000, a US in-house hire at about $9,500 a month all-in costs more than the 12% fee, yet the same 20-point cut keeps $12,000.
Most owners shop on the fee. The ones who win shop on the waste.

| 5. Tools per month | All subscriptions | $249 | |
| 6. Waste % | Spend with zero sales in 90 days ÷ total spend | 30% | |
| 7. Wasted spend | Line 1 × line 6 | $4,500 | |
| 8. True monthly cost | Lines 3 + 4 + 5 + 7 | $7,187 | |
| 9. Fee share of true cost | Line 3 ÷ line 8 | 31% |
To find your waste % (line 6):
- Open Goals › Conversions › Summary. If page views or engagement are Primary, every number below is inflated. Set them to Secondary.
- Add the 90-day cost of products with zero purchases (Shopping or Performance Max).
- Add the 90-day cost of search terms with zero purchases (Search campaigns).
- Add any campaign or video ad with zero purchases not yet counted.
- Divide by total spend for the same 90 days.
- Check against store orders before you cut. In our audit, 381 products with zero ad sales still sold through other channels.
Which Google Ads management option should you choose?
Pick the option that reports waste in money every month, then the cheapest one that does.
- Under $5,000 a month: hire a freelancer or run a tool yourself. A $750 agency fee is 15% or more of this budget.
- $5,000–$50,000 a month: compare a flat-fee agency with an in-house hire plus a tool.
- Above $50,000 a month: price an in-house team plus tools against a 12% fee.
- Any budget: ask “What sold nothing last month, in money?” No answer means the fee is your smallest problem.
Our agents send owners that report every week (see the reports).
How we know this
Prices: vendor pricing and rate pages opened on 14 October 2026 (WebFX, Optmyzr, Opteo, Adalysis, Ryze, Upwork). Salaries: Indeed (US, updated 2 October 2026; India, updated 30 January 2026) and the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (June 2026). Agency fee ranges: 2026 agency-written guides (NEWMEDIA, ALM Corp, Clicks Geek); I found no independent 2025–2026 fee survey. Waste: one real audit of an Indian D2C store (brand private): Google Ads, Google Analytics and store orders, January 2023 – 9 October 2026. Third-party waste studies are vendor studies. Examples use example numbers, not claims.
Questions people ask
How much should I pay someone to manage my Google Ads?
Expect 10–20% of monthly ad spend from an agency, $15–$45 an hour from an Upwork freelancer, or $78,080 a year for a US in-house manager before benefits. Pay for the option that shows you, in money, what sold nothing.
Is 15% of ad spend a fair Google Ads management fee?
It sits in the middle of the usual 10–20% range. It is fair only if the manager cuts more waste than the fee costs: on $15,000, cutting waste from 30% to 10% keeps $3,000, more than a $2,250 fee.
Do Google Ads agencies charge a setup fee?
Many do. WebFX charges a first-month “initial optimization” of $1,200, $2,250 or $5,800, by tier. Make sure the fee includes a check of what Google counts as a conversion.
Are AI tools cheaper than a Google Ads agency?
The subscription is. As of October 2026, Opteo starts at $129 a month, Adalysis at $149 and Optmyzr at $299. But someone must still read and approve each change. Count that time as a cost.
How much do Google Ads freelancers charge per hour?
Upwork’s rate pages show a median $15–$40 an hour for Google Ads experts and $20–$45 for PPC specialists. Clients also pay Upwork a 5% service fee (10% on Business Plus).
Can an AI agent replace a Google Ads manager?
Partly. Google’s Ads Advisor and tools such as Ryze suggest changes and apply them after you approve. But an agent trusts what the account counts. In one real audit, Google counted 816,270 “conversions” in nine weeks against 303 store orders.
